Beauty Without Cruelty Mineral Shadow Pride Swatch And Review

Beauty Without Cruelty is one of the most popular high-end make up companies that is 100% vegan and cruelty free. They make a ton of different products, including lipsticks and mineral shadows. I was very excited when I saw the sale pop up on Sneak Peeq, I knew it was the perfect time to try Beauty Without Cruelty. Generally their products are quite expensive. A lipstick is $24 and a mineral shadow is $25. Wow! I scored my shadow for a mere $4 total! Isn’t that amazing?

Swatch with flash

When I swatched this shadow I was simply amazed. I applied this over a simple primer with two swipes. The color is vibrant and has lots of glitter and shimmer. The blue flecks are especially striking. It was love at first swatch. The texture, density, pigment and everything is very smooth and wonderful. Nothing like the sheer shadows from Bare Escentuals.

Application

I assume that the other mineral shadows from Beauty Without Cruelty work pretty much the same. The texture was superb and it blends very nicely when worn. The color depth is especially pleasing on the eyes, and it compliments other shadows very well. I like to use it over Pixie Epoxy to further enhance the glitter.

Wear

There is minimal fall out, which is surprising for such a glittery shadow. I wore this for 8 hours and it held up very well. I am going to wear it alone to see how it holds up on the rest of my lid and to see if it creases over primer. The wear is what I would expect from such an expensive shadow.

Value

The product is 1.5 grams for $25. This is pretty expensive for a mineral shadow. I wish they were cheaper because I would buy all of them in a heartbeat, even though some of the other colors aren’t as bold. I recommend finding Beauty Without Cruelty on sale, you are very likely to get a good deal.

Packaging

The packaging is ADORABLE, and that’s one of the things I really like about the brand. Swans are formed into hearts around the lid.

Dupes

If you want a cheaper product that is similar, I recommend trying Fyrinnae Cuddlefish. It has the same blue sparkle and glitter, but is a bit more vibrant. It’s also $23 cheaper if you buy the sample size, or $19 cheaper if you buy the full-size. Both products are 100% vegan and cruelty free.

Conclusion

If you have money to spend, this company is definitely worth trying. I love the Pride shadow, and I am interested in trying their foundation and lipsticks.

You can buy Beauty Without Cruelty on Drugstore.com.

Fyrinnae Spring Colors & Beauty Without Cruelty Look

Friday I played with my new Fyrinnae Spring colors, I just couldn’t wait to use them to make something bold and pretty. I also used my new Beauty Without Cruelty mineral shadow, to see how well it held up.I will go into detail on that later, but for now, pictures!

fyrinnae make up look

I like my shadow to just peek over the crease, but sometimes I inch it up a little higher. I am wearing Trollop by OCC on my lips, and it lasted six hours! I have a review coming on that too.

My eyebrows are terrible. I need a wax job, so just ignore those. Blogger Beauty on the inner corner, Pteranodon in the middle, and Beauty Without Cruelty Pride on the outer corner.

NEW Fyrinnae Spring/Summer 2012 Collection Review & Swatches

I am a long-time fan of Fyrinnae Cosmetics. I discovered them through a random blog a few years ago, and I have been wildly obsessed since. From Pixie Epoxy to lovely blushes, Fyrinnae is truly a superb company. They have never EVER disappointed me. Ever. That’s saying a lot for a relatively small business run by actual humans instead of big-mean-corporations. Anyway, I was so stoked to see that they had released a spring/summer collection.

The new collection includes:

  • Picture It: Sicily: Rich coral with plenty of shimmer.
  • Pteranodon: Beautiful shimmering turquoise with a hint of silver sparkle.
  • Blogger Beauty: Bright shimmering mauve with blue sparks. Very evident in person, very hard to photograph.
  • Bitey Tyrannosaur: Bright lime green with a gold shimmer shift.
  • *You’re: Bright shimmery warm red, with tons of sparkle.
  • Cuddlefish: Extremely sparkly bright purple with tons of blue-violent shift going on.
  • Lorem Ipsum: Deep shimmery blue with a lime green sparkle.
  • Callipygian (one of my favorite words since my boyfriend asked if my mom had this word in mind when she named me): Vibrant green with kelly green over black.
  • Shenanigans: Rich metallic gold over a dark base.

Out of these I was only able to purchase a few, but I plan to go and buy them all very soon. I ordered:

  • Pteranodon
  • Cuddlefish
  • Callipygian

They included a VERY generous sample of Blogger Beauty too! I was so thrilled to see that little extra in my order. It made me smile quite big.

These colors are pretty stunning. I am in love. Applying Callipygian is like rubbing dark green  velvet on your skin, it’s so smooth and effortlessly pigmented. The others are soft and bright with just one tiny tap of shadow. I haven’t been this excited about any product in a long time. Fyrinnae sets the standard high for all other companies out there.

The best part is that they are a vegan company. I love having endless vibrant and unique colors at my disposal. Plus, sample sizes are only $2 and they are VERY generously portioned. Full-size shadows are even more generous.

Me & You Healthy Vegan Deodorant Review

Me & You is a shiny new Etsy shop that creates handmade vegan deodorant. No preservatives, no junk, no toxic ingredients. Most commercial deodorant products are tested on animals. While the science behind the “toxic” ingredients is iffy, I prefer not to use those ingredients if I can avoid it.

Since going vegan my body odor has decreased by a lot. I barely have any armpit odor! I can literally go three days without using a deodorant, but still exercise and not have a smell. Yeah. Veganism is that awesome!

Anyway, the vegan deodorants out there seem to give me a horrible allergic rash. I get swollen and red under my arms leaving them painfully sore. Not pretty. The brands that did this to me were all of the majorly well known brands, like TOMS of Maine, JASON and others. The only other vegan deodorant I have liked is the Ophelia’s Apothecary deodorant spray.

I placed my order with Me & You March 29th and it arrived Monday, April 9th. The shop is based in Canada, so all things considered it didn’t take very long for it to arrive. My package was half ripped open, but I assume that is because of mean ol’ customs. The deodorant was wrapped so cutely in brown paper and held with a sticker.

My Kiko kitty laying in the sun, on top of all of my mail!

me&you healthy vegan deodorant

I was actually the very first customer! I chose the ylang-ylang fragrance. These are a good 1.76 ounces in size, like a standard deodorant.

I know this is kind of gross. When my package arrived it had been in the sun for awhile, so it was melty. I didn’t know how to apply it yet so I made a huge mess, and this was the result on my t-shirt. More on how to apply this without a mess in a bit!

me & you healthy vegan deodorant ingredients

Consistency Of The Deodorant

I didn’t know what to expect. This is a healthy deodorant after all. Some of them are goopy, some are too dry, some are too wet, etc. I was actually surprised that it is more like a balm. The shea butter ingredient makes it very moisturizing and creamy, and also prone to melting. It dries down and absorbs, after that point it feels like a soft powder. After it is set into the skin it is invisible.

Using Me & You Healthy Vegan Deodorant

Using this can be a little tricky. It has a turn dial to push the product up, but you don’t want to push too much up at one time, or it will make a huge mess and you will waste product. Only push up a little bit at a time. Swipe once and repeat.

An alternate method that I like is simply using my fingers to apply it to my armpits. I rub it in like a lotion and it’s all ready!

Do not put on your clothes first and try to apply this. It will not be a good experience. I know firsthand! Apply before putting on any clothes.

You may want to reconsider using this with fancy clothing.

Effectiveness Of The Healthy Deodorant

I was actually surprised that I didn’t have an allergic reaction. That is my biggest concern with any natural formula. I have used it for 3 days in a row now, including during sweaty exercise. It keeps odors away for at least 6 hours. Keep in mind what I said above about my body odor. I feel confident wearing this and the fragrance actually lasts awhile too!

Overall Opinion

I definitely recommend trying this deodorant. It is $7.20 USD and a few bucks shipping. The shop owners are super nice and clearly work hard to provide a good product. I will want to order more in the future, but I know once summer starts in New Mexico that may make ordering difficult. Products tend to melt on me! If you order one and it arrives melted, then pop it in the freezer!

Giovanni Eco-Chic Skincare Purifying & Exfoliating Facial Wipes Review

While perusing the options of vegan goods at Target I was quite surprised at what I found! I noticed these little wipes at an end-cap and had to grab them. They were only $2.50 for 10 wipes. They are only slightly more expensive than cheaper brands, but my Yes To wipes are 30 for $8. I think the trade off is well worth it!

These wipes are made with volcanic ash and goji berry extract. They are supposed to draw out toxins and revitalize the skin. The package says that they are for all skin types.

I usually wear mineral foundation, blush and eye make up. Taking it off with a wipe usually isn’t the most effective method of removal. However, when I tried these wipes yesterday I was surprised. They are very stretchy and soft, but that is likely due to them being biodegradable. Most make up wipes are NOT biodegradable, so you are essentially filling land fills with tons of materials that won’t dissolve. I’m not the most eco-friendly person out there, but I figure making small changes for things like this is pretty important, AND easy. You can’t beat easy!

The smell of these wipes is very pleasant, and the liquid used in them feels a bit like soap. Don’t worry, it’s soap-free and will not need to be rinsed off! I used one wipe to remove all of my makeup effectively. The feeling after was dryness but radiance. My face wasn’t made red or irritated. This is a problem for me because I have sensitive skin. They felt gentle and soft. My face was left clean and definitely rejuvenated. I chose not to wash my face with my Clarisonic and just applied my coconut oil. In the morning, my skin was super soft and clear. I had some tiny pimples but they are gone today! I would like to think it was the exfoliating properties of the wipes.

The Giovanni Purifying & Exfoliating wipes are a definite must-have for me. I am going to buy a few more packages next time I go to Target. I also noticed that there were more skin-care products in the D:Tox line. My skin doesn’t need detoxing, but I think they are worth checking out for someone that has skin concerns. Giovanni isn’t 100% vegan, but most of their products are vegan and never tested on animals.Giovanni is an easily accessible brand that is high-quality AND affordable.

Lynnderella Connect-The-Dots Polish Over Woodstock By Urban Decay

I was lucky enough to score a Connect-the-Dots polish, thanks to my darling friend Lacey that ordered an extra. This polish is extremely hard to get and I’m not even sure how the process works. All I know is that at this exact moment, they aren’t taking orders or requests. This polish is handmade by a very talented lady. Due to the handmade nature, there’s no animal testing and it’s 100% vegan polish. The Lynnderella Connect-The-Dots polish is $15 per bottle.

Application

Applying this polish was super easy! It went on without being goopy or too runny. With very simple stippling strokes, I created the effect I wanted within one coat. To get the best results, don’t wipe the brush on the inside of the bottle rim. Leave lots of polish on the brush.

Lasting Power

This stuff stays. I removed mine the next day, but it is extremely difficult to remove through peeling or nail polish remover. I think this is a good thing! Lynnderella polishes have a high-quality formula that can’t be beat.

Uniqueness

Is there any question as to whether or not this polish is unique? There is simply nothing like it. At all. Ever. It’s so fun to look at and it makes me smile.

Look below for lots of swatches! I applied it over Urban Decay’s Woodstock.

Brazen Cosmetics Beauty Sleep Skin Perfecting Treatment Powder Review

I purchased the Brazen Cosmetics Beauty Sleep Skin Perfecting Treatment Powder a few weeks ago. I have taken so long to review because I wanted to ensure that I had ample testing time. This product comes in three sizes, 10g, 20g and 30g! You save a bit of money purchasing the large jar versus the small one, but I did purchase just the 10g jar. This product is 100% vegan and contains kaolin clay, calcium carbonate, zinc, salicylic acid, green tea extract and chamomile extract.

My first question was how the heck do I use this stuff? If you use night creams then this would interfere, but there’s a solution! Apply your night treatments first and let them absorb. Then apply the powder. Simple! I just apply my coconut oil and then the powder. Kaolin clay can be drying, and I was worried that my skin would get drier. Not the case. The next morning I woke up with radiant skin that wasn’t so red and my little pimples were dried out.

This product is effective and a fun mineral treatment for nighttime. You can use it constantly or just as a spot treatment over areas with blemishes. It’s totally up to you. A 10g size is small but it will last about a month depending on how you use the product. It does make your skin look paler so be sure to wash it off in the morning!

I would especially recommend this product to people with oily skin or lightly blemished skin. You will see the most results if your skin is this type. I have dry slightly blemished skin, so it took tweaking my routine to see the best results. I have been using it for a month now and I love it! I can’t live without it.

Price: $7.99 – $17.49

HITS Mari Moon Daring Swatches And Review

I ordered HITS Mari Moon Daring when it was on sale at Llarowe. The Mari Moon polishes have a duo-chrome shift that looks wicked in sunlight. This particular shade is a dark teal with purple, and sometimes a shimmery blue.

Mari Moon polishes are NOT 3-Free. They come from Brazil. The brand is vegan and cruelty-free as far as I know. The formula is really easy to apply, and it reaches full opacity in just two coats. Chipping doesn’t start until day four or five. Mari Moon polishes are definitely one of the more quality polishes I have. Compared to OPI, they are definitely longer lasting and more interesting. Each bottle is about $8 and 6ml. This is smaller than your standard nail polish size of .5 ounce per bottle. Though, I’m not a fan of huge nail polish bottles anyway. I will never finish them, so less is always more to me.

I’m pretty much in love with Mari Moon HITS Daring. My boyfriend is also fascinated by the shifting colors. I can’t stop looking at my nails! You can buy this on the Llarowe website.

GUD Pearanormal Activity By Burt’s Bees Review

gud by burts bees

I recently ran out of conditioner and I desperately needed a new one that was vegan and leaping bunny certified. Scanning the shelves in Target I noticed the Gud by Burt’s Bees products. I sniffed them all and they each smelled so yummy. I decided on Pearanormal Activity, which is juicy pear and acai berry scented. It’s labeled as being a “Natural Softening Conditioner.”

One thing I really like about the conditioner is the smell. It makes me groan with happiness because it smells so yummy! It’s not one of those ultra-creamy conditioners, it definitely acts like a natural conditioner. It coats your hair but it doesn’t feel creamy. This was expected and it isn’t a problem in my opinion.

I judge a conditioner by how well it rinses. Some conditioners leave my hair feeling basically the same. I like when a conditioner leaves my hair noticeably sleek in the shower. GUD definitely does that. I have very long thick hair, so that is important.

After showering my hair was easy to comb. A bad conditioner will make combing a tragic mess, but GUD conditioner makes it easy to manage.

I’m really excited to purchase the shampoo. I think I may have found my new regular shampoo and conditioner! It’s easy to find, it’s affordable and smells great. Finding a natural shampoo and conditioner that does its job is hard, and most suck to be honest. This stuff is a must try, especially if you have thick hair!

An Open Letter To My Readers About Feeling Beautiful

Dear Women Of The World,

Society makes it so that we do not feel satisfied in our own skin. We purchase products to adjust the appearance of splotchiness, redness, acne pimples, wrinkles, dull skin, dry skin, oily skin and otherwise imperfect skin. We minimize pores, and even our nose size with clever contouring. We give ourselves cheekbones that aren’t normally visible. We highlight and define until we look like a completely different person.

Makeup isn’t a bad thing. Don’t get me wrong. I love beauty products and dressing up. It’s just that feeling beautiful goes beyond what we put on our skin. Millions of women won’t go outside without makeup of some sort on their face. They exercise with a full face of makeup on. They have sex with it on. They might even wear it to bed. (Which I don’t advise doing, ever.)

Feeling beautiful in our own natural skin is becoming increasingly difficult. Why should we be OK with what we have naturally, when we can just cover it up? We become accustomed to seeing our faces plastered with products, that when we look in the mirror with a bare face, it’s seen as unattractive. It may not happen immediately, but overtime we don’t like our natural skin. We hate the freckles and pore size, or blemishes and scars.

I’ve been working on myself in the last few months. Getting used to your face without makeup is hard, but beauty goes beyond what you put on the surface. Beauty runs deep into your soul. If you feel confident and look confident, then convincing others of the same isn’t that difficult. Smiling goes a long way to brightening a face. Exercise gives everyone a radiant glow that no beauty product can give.

I challenge everyone that reads this to try to forgo wearing makeup a little more often. Skip it at the gym. Skip it on the weekends. It’s hard at first, but the feeling of being 100 percent yourself is beyond amazing. The feeling of loving your skin, and I do mean really loving it, is uplifting. Take care of your skin from head-to-toe. Moisturize and cleanse. Treat yourself to luxurious facial masks. Drink enough water and eat a lot of fruits and green vegetables. What you put inside your body reflects on the outside.

I’m not saying give up all makeup forever and ever. I just want to see more women loving how they look without alterations. I want to see more women being fearless of a bare face.

Above all things, just love yourself.

Love,

Callie
